Position overview
NovoClade is seeking a Research Associate with a background in entomology, molecular biology, genetics, or a related field of science or engineering at its location in St Paul, MN. The employee will be part of a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers creating transgenic insects for pest control applications. The ideal candidate is hard-working, collaborative, detail-oriented, and self-motivated to apply the latest advancements in genetic engineering to solve real-world problems. In this role, the Research Associate will perform technical, hands-on tasks and apply their skill and knowledge in the field to support NovoClade's research and development programs. Applicants must be willing to perform work in a laboratory setting. Good verbal and written communication skills are important.
Responsibilities
- Design and construct recombinant DNA plasmids.
- Perform DNA, RNA, and protein isolation and quantification.
- Conduct insect embryo microinjection.
- Support general maintenance of insect colonies.
- Collect and record experimental data.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, or a related field, and one year of experience, or a combination of related education and experience equal to five years.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to maintain responsibility for multiple projects simultaneously.
- Technical proficiency with molecular biology techniques.
- Exceptional documentation skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team, including strong communication skills.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. NovoClade is unable to sponsor or assume sponsorship of an employment visa for this position, now or in the future.
Preferred qualifications
- Background in entomology, molecular biology, genetics, or a related field of science or engineering.
- Deep understanding of molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, and DNA assembly techniques.
- Interest in applying genetic engineering to practical pest control challenges.
